THE HISTORY OF ABU DHABI GOLF CLUB

Abu Dhabi Golf Club History

About us

Abu Dhabi Golf Club, designed by Peter Harradine in 1998, is a 27- Hole Championship course that opened its doors to golfers and non golfers alike in May of 2000. The impressive clubhouse, built in the shape of a falcon with its wings outstretched, overlooks the golf course. The Clubhouse dominates the scene as you look across the lakes from the far end of the course.

The superbly designed building exudes a relaxed elegance both inside and out.

With lush fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and generous greens, the 27-hole championship course, has hosted 16 consecutive editions of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club, with its 162 hectares and one of the best world-class 27-hole championship golfing facilities in the world, has been dubbed a “super course” by leading sections of the golfing press.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club takes great pride in its exceptional leisure activities and fine amenities. Since we started, the Golf Club has undergone a significant expansion and renovation of its facilities in order to upgrade the experience for members and guests. We are committed to meeting and surpassing the needs of our valued members.

The Clubhouse

Designed by Samir Daoud

In 1990, Diar Consult won the commission to design the clubhouse and ancillary buildings of Abu Dhabi Golf Club through a competition arranged by Abu Dhabi Municipality, the aim of the competition: to place itself on the golfing map of the world

One of the key characteristics of the design was to ensure that all three floors of the iconic clubhouse would be able to enjoy prominent and unhindered views of the 9th and 18th holes of the championship course designed by

Peter Harradine.

Construction began in 1995, and the stage was set to make the Falcon Clubhouse at Abu Dhabi Golf  Club one of a few if not only golf clubs in the world with an instantly recognizable design.

With construction completed in 1998, Abu Dhabi Golf Club opened its doors in 2000 with the inaugural professional event, the European Seniors Tour Final.

The Course

Designed by Peter Harradine

In 1995 a man once said “Give me a patch of desert and I will give you a golf course to be proud of” - Peter Harradine.

Back in the day, it really wasn’t easy finding an accessible facility in Abu Dhabi where you could practice as an individual or play on a championship course. That is why, through mutual effort and a shared dream, we managed to establish our very own Golf Course.

Harradine Golf has designed, constructed, re-modeled, and /or supervised the construction of over 200 Golf Courses in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
